Prof. Roy C. Wood joined the Faculty of Business Administration, UM as the Associate Dean (Curriculum and Teaching) on August 3rd, 2015. He is a Professor in Hospitality and Gaming Management. He received his BA degree in sociology and social psychology from University of York before obtaining a postgraduate diploma in hotel and catering administration from CNAA, Manchester Polytechnic. He subsequently obtained his MPhil by research in the philosophy and sociology of science from University of Bath and his PhD in human resource management from University of Strathclyde.

Prof. Wood has broad experience of UK and overseas educational settings. Before joining UM, he was Professor in International Hospitality Management at NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands. He was Professor of Hospitality Management at The Scottish Hotel School, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Dean at The Oberoi Centre for Learning And Development, The Oberoi Hotel Group, India, and Professor and Interim Vice-Rector at Neapolis University of Pafos, Cyprus. In addition, he had also worked in various private organizations and was extensively involved in staff development; strategic and operational management; academic and practitioner programme development; collaborative installation of policies and procedures for enhancing learning, teaching and assessment; and validation and educational and other forms of quality assurance.

Prof. Wood is the author, co-author, editor or co-editor of some 15 books and over 60 research papers in refereed journals. His first book, Working in Hotels and Catering remains a major reference point for the study of employment in the hospitality industry. His edited collection Strategic Questions in Food and Beverage Management has sold several thousand copies around the world. He had contributed to The Sage Handbook of Hospitality Management,the current definitive reference work in the hospitality field, and edited and contributed to Key Concepts in Hospitality Management published by Sage in 2013.

He is a member of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, and holds or has held numerous visiting academic appointments in universities in Europe and Asia. He is a Fellow of both the UK Higher Education Academy and the UK Institute of Hospitality. In 2014 he was the recipient of a Honorary Fellowship of the UK Council for Hospitality Management Education in recognition of his contribution to hospitality research and education.
